The band was formed in 1967 by Gabriel, Rutherford, Banks, Anthony Phillips and Chris Stweart while they were
attending school in Surrey. They recorded their first album, From Genesis to Revelation during the summer break
of 1968. Stewart was asked to leave the band, and was replaced by John Silver. In 1970, they recorded Trespass.
Silver left the group right after, being replaced by John Mayhew.

Phillips left the band in 1970, and Mayhew was fired. This caused Collins and Hackett to be hired. The newly formed Genesis recorded four albums
beween 1971 and 1975. In 1975, Gabriel decided to leave the group, as did Hackett.
Collins decided to take the role as both the drummer and lead singer from then on.

In 1976 the band reached #3 on the UK charts with A Trick of the Tail . Hackett decided to leave the group in 1977,
leaving only Collins, Rutherford and Banks. They decided to continue the band as a trio. Chester Thompson had been hired as the touring drummer,
and Daryl Stuermer was hired as the touring guitarist. In 1978 they released their first album as a trio, ...And Then There Were Three...

The band continued on as a trio throughout the 1980s and 1990s, with Collins releasing successufl albums while still part of Genesis . The band released five albums
from 1980 to 1991, and reached an international fame with their #1 album, Invisible Touch in 1986. Collins
completely left the band in 1996. Banks and Rutherford found a new singer, Ray Wilson, and produed one album, but it was not successful. The band dissembled after that.
